Special Ministries

At SBC, we seek to foster an appreciation of individuals with disabilities as indispensable members of the Body of Christ. Our holistic approach to learning about Jesus, worshiping together, and building community creates a welcoming environment for all those impacted by special needs. Our vision is to see all Christ followers with diverse abilities live and love like Jesus.

  • Be a Buddy -  “Everybody needs a buddy!” As a buddy, you will be assigned to a child who needs a support in the regular Discovery Kids or Youth program. Sundays 9am & 11am for children; Sundays at 5pm for youth.
    • Child buddies needed in regular YTH and Discovery Kids programs and during Vacation Bible School
    • Adult buddies needed in classroom and during fall day camp
  • Room Support - This person helps in assisting any child/children who need a little extra guidance or encouragement during service time (maybe a visitor, someone who recently moved or is going through life-changing circumstances).
  • Teaching – Someone who is creatively gifted to teach children of all ages.
  • Classroom Assistance - For someone more inclined to serve in a support role where hands-on ministry isn’t necessary. We need help planning, decorating, serving, setting up or cleaning up, and assisting where needed.

In addition to submitting a Volunteer Application and completing a background check, Special Ministries volunteers must also provide 2 references and watch training/safety videos prior to serving.
